How to choose your veterinarian?
A good veterinarian will help your cat reduce stress with each visit. You can seek advice from other masters you know, talk to the firm’s staff, find out about opening hours or even ask to visit the premises.
Being faithful to your veterinarian will reassure your pet.
Should I take my cat to the vet?
It is essential to take your cat to the vet and have him vaccinated.
He can develop a disease without you noticing. The veterinarian may then propose preventive treatment.
For example, you may not see certain diseases, abnormal weight loss or even certain lumps.
Only a qualified person will be able to make the right decisions. So don’t try to treat your cat yourself.
What vaccinations should I give my cat?
There are many vaccinations to give your cat. I will mention some of the diseases that are prevented by the main vaccines made by your veterinarian:
- typhus,
- the flu,
- the feline leukemia virus,
- feline chlamydia,
- feline bordetellosis,
- rabies.
Regular reminders are essential. but, for some infectious diseases, there are no vaccines:
the feline immunodeficiency virus,
infectious peritonitis,
or infectious anemia.
What are the symptoms that indicate that my cat is sick?
First and foremost, you need to know your cat’s behaviour.
Both the increase and loss of appetite should be monitored. Excessive weight is harmful to the cat, and predisposes your pet to many health problems.
If your cat is regularly thirsty, he may have pathologies, such as excessive lethargy or lack of flexibility.
Finally, check quite often that your cat’s hair is in good condition, which will be synonymous with good health.
I wrote an article on the warning signs and symptoms that should alert you to his state of health. You can consult it here.
The “state of shock” in cats
By shock I mean an animal that no longer moves, seems sounded, and no longer reacts.
Check that his airways are not blocked, keep him calm and safe.
Wrap him in a blanket, leave him on a hot water bottle and contact the veterinary emergency services quickly to avoid as much as possible a risk of relapse.
My cat is in an unusual aggressive state, what does that mean?
If your cat is aggressive, because he must either be afraid or suffer.
He may have difficulty breathing, or be injured. Or maybe you’ve created negative associations in his mind.
If his aggressive and unusual behaviour persists, he should be taken to your veterinarian as a matter of urgency.
Sterilization of the cat
The sterilization of the cat is done under general anesthesia. The males are castrated. This prevents reproduction, but also vagrancy, territory marking and fighting for a female.
They undergo an ovariohysterectomy. After this operation, the female no longer attracts males. Be aware that sterilization predisposes animals to overweight and will cause them to gain a few hundred grams.
My cat scratches and licks more than usual. Why? Why?
External parasites may have taken up residence in his coat.
Fleas can be the intermediate host of the flatworm.
Lice can also cause many itches, forcing your cat to scratch at every turn.
Be careful, mites cause skin rashes in humans. In any case, consult your veterinarian. It can also include bleeding, lumps, lesions, hair loss, etc...
